We have a vacancy for a Governor at our school.
Every term governing bodies meet to support the work of schools. Each governing body is made up of parents, staff and other members of the community who, together with the Head, are responsible for a wide range of matters affecting the life of the school and the work of pupils. The termly meetings are held after school (usually from 7.00– 9.00pm). Occasionally an additional meeting is called. Usually some pre-reading is required for each meeting (eg. reading the Headteacher’s Report, checking policies, and scrutinising pupil assessment data). Support and training are given to all Governors to help them become familiar with such documentation in order that they are able to fulfil their role.
The Governing Body is looking for candidates who have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school and we are particularly interested in applicants who have a knowledge of ICT in the work place. Other skills could still be beneficial including specific ones such as an ability to understand finances, fundraising, or general capabilities such as the capacity and willingness to learn. A background in Education is not a requirement when joining the Governing Body! The Governing Body supports or challenges the decisions of the Headteacher, rather than advising her on what decisions to make.
All Governors will be required to hold a DBS certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service), which the school will organise.
If you would like to be a candidate, or know of someone else who might be interested, or even if you just wish to find out more about the role, please contact Helen Barron on 01525 402377. Thank you for supporting our school.
